Andy Ruenes: The Early Years

About Andy
Part 1: The Early Years

Andy was born Andres David Ruenes on May 31, 1970 at 12:45 p.m. at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Florida. His parents, Gladys L. Cordova and Angel A. Ruenes, were both Cuban. On July 19, 1970 he was baptized at Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Andy was a sweet happy boy, but even at an early age he was very inquisitive. As his mother I remember when he was about 3 or 4 years old. We were lying down in bed together, and he asked me about things such as air pollution, death, and heaven. He attended elementary at St John the Apostle Catholic School; during his fifth grade he became an altar boy, and he graduated in the class of 1984. Andy had a great love for music, and it started at a young age. Even though he took music classes as a young child, he really started displaying a great talent for music in his middle school years at Miami Springs Junior High School. He joined the band and started playing the tenor sax.
